Ontario’s Express Entry Streams

Ontario’s Express Entry Streams consist of three sub-streams:

  1. French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream
  2. Human Capital Priorities stream
  3. Skilled Trades stream

1. French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream

This stream is for candidates fluent in both French and English with the skills and experience to contribute to Ontario's economy.
Requirements:

  • A valid Express Entry profile in the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) or Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
  • Language: CLB 7 or higher in French and CLB 6 or higher in English.
  • Work Experience: At least 1 year of continuous full-time work experience (or equivalent part-time) in a NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 job.
  • Education: Equivalent to a Canadian bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Settlement Funds: Must meet minimum settlement funds criteria.
  • Intent: Must plan to live and work in Ontario.

2. Human Capital Priorities stream

This stream targets candidates with work experience in specific in-demand occupations to help meet Ontario's labor market needs.
Requirements:

  • A valid Express Entry profile in FSWP or CEC.
  • Work Experience:
    • FSWP: At least 1 year of continuous full-time work experience in a NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation.
    • CEC: 1 year of full-time work experience in Canada in a NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 job.
  • Education: Canadian bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Language: CLB 7 or higher in English or French.
  • Settlement Funds: Proof of funds required for settlement.
  • Intent: Must demonstrate a desire to reside in Ontario.

Candidates eligible from Canada or abroad.

3. Skilled Trades stream

This stream is designed for workers with experience in skilled trades, addressing Ontario’s demand for skilled labor.
Requirements:

  • A valid Express Entry profile.
  • Work Experience: At least 1 year of full-time work experience in Ontario within the last 2 years in a NOC TEER 2 or 3 skilled trade (as per Ontario’s in-demand trades list).
  • Trade Certification: If applicable, you must hold a valid certification or license for your trade in Ontario.
  • Residence in Ontario: Must have valid work authorization and be residing in Ontario at the time of application.
  • Language: CLB 5 or higher in English or French.
  • Settlement Funds: Proof of settlement funds if not currently working in Ontario.
  • Intent: Plan to live and work in Ontario.

Ontario’s Expression of Interest Streams

Ontario’s Expression of Interest Streams consist of five sub-streams:

  1. Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream
  2. Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream
  3. Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills Stream
  4. Masters Graduate Stream
  5. PhD Graduate Stream

1. Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker stream

This stream gives foreign workers with a job offer in a skilled occupation the opportunity to apply to permanently live and work in Ontario.

Requirements:

  • ➡️ Job Offer: The job must be full-time and permanent (no end date), defined as a minimum of 1,560 hours per year and at least 30 hours of paid work per week, in an eligible occupation.
  • ➡️ Eligible Occupation: The job offer must be in a skilled occupation classified under TEER category 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
  • ➡️ Median Wage: The pay for the job must meet or exceed the median wage for that occupation in the region of Ontario where you will be working. Check median wage on Job Bank website.
  • ➡️ Experience or License: You must meet one of the following based on the position:
    1. If the job requires a mandatory licence or other authorization under Ontario law, you must hold a valid licence or authorization from the appropriate regulatory body at the time of application submission.
    2. If the job does not require a licence, you must show at least two years of cumulative full-time paid work experience in the same occupation as the NOC code of your job offer, within the last five years before submitting your application.
  • ➡️ License: If a licence or authorization is mandatory for the job, you must have a valid licence or authorization from the relevant regulatory body in Ontario at the time of application.

2. Employer Job Offer: International Student stream

This stream gives international students with a job offer in a skilled occupation the opportunity to apply to permanently live and work in Ontario.

  • ➡️ Job Offer: The job offer must be for a full-time and permanent position. Full-time means at least 1,560 hours per year and a minimum of 30 hours of paid work per week.

3. Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream

To qualify under the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream, you must have a job offer in Ontario from an employer that meets the following requirements.

Requirements:
  • ➡️ Job Offer: Full-time, permanent(no end date) job offer in eligible occupations
    Full-time means the job must be a minimum of 1,560 hours a year and a minimum of 30 hours of paid work per week.
  • ➡️ Median Wage: Job must meet or exceed the median wage level (Check here: Job Bank)
  • ➡️ Experience: At least 9 months of work experience in the same in-demand occupation as your job offer in Ontario
  • ➡️ License: If the job requires a mandatory license in Ontario, you must have it.
  • ➡️ Language: Minimum CLB level 4 either English or French
  • ➡️ Education: High school diploma or equivalent credential
